Boots, ballgowns, and barnyard guests — that's the winning combination behind a one-of-a-kind fall gala coming to Grand Rapids this November. Indian Paintbrush Farm Sanctuary, a Rockford-based nonprofit, is hosting Boots & Ballgowns at The Gilmore — an upscale Western-themed evening featuring live music, themed cocktails, elevated dining, and live and silent auctions. The real stars of the night, however, are the sanctuary's rescued farm animals, who will mingle with guests as animal ambassadors, offering up-close encounters designed to build genuine connection and compassion. All proceeds support lifelong, compassionate care for rescued farm animals. The event takes place November 14, 2026, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. |

Cherie Inn in Grand Rapids, Michigan has been filling its dining room before the coffee finishes brewing — and it has been doing so for decades. Tucked into the East Hills neighborhood on Cherry Street, the century-old café still sports its original 1920s tin ceilings, vintage furniture, and a personality that far outpaces its modest exterior. The menu revolves around eggs Benedict, with inventive variations like crab cake, shaved ribeye, and rotating weekend specials such as whitefish cream Benedict. Regulars know to ask servers about splitting two Benedicts on a single plate — a beloved off-menu move. Owner Michael often greets guests at the door, and one server has worked there for at least 25 years. The café holds 4.7 stars across more than 1,100 Google reviews — a figure that speaks for itself. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 8 am to 2 pm; arrive early to beat the weekend rush. |

The Grand Rapids Symphony isn't just for grown-ups — and this season's lineup at DeVos Performance Hall proves it. From a live-to-film performance of The Muppet Christmas Carol with the full orchestra to jaw-dropping Cirque acts, Holiday Pops, and a Billy Joel tribute night, there's something for every member of the family. Families are welcomed warmly, kids are allowed to wiggle, and lobby activities keep little ones entertained before the curtain rises. Concessions are available to bring right into the auditorium. The Symphony also travels West Michigan with school concerts, park performances, and educational programming. Discounts are available for students, military families, and groups of six or more. |
